We are happy to publish our new book design for David Mackintosh, fine artist and lecturer in Fine Art at UCLAN. The luxury book, printed in Italy and cotton bound, is being used in part to publicise a new exhibition of the artist’s work at the Spike Island Gallery in Bristol.
It also works as a standalone gallery in it’s own right; showcasing Mackintosh’s art in a largely text free format, with stochastic print technology – which briefly is print using the random placement of dots. The overall effect is similar to the grain on photographic film - and utilising a stock that mirrors the paper he produced his original pieces on. The book has been designed for pure viewing in mind, giving the viewer instant access to the artist’s work by keeping all information (other than Fig references) towards the rear of the book.
The artist’s work is king and stays that way by thoughtful and considered typography.
